All humanoids have the natural ability to command troops, based on their notoriety as "tough guys", their ability to bark orders, and capacity to intimidate and bully.
This natural ability can be used on any humanoid NPC who has fewer HD, and only once per day.
A Charisma check on 1d20 is required, and if successful, the subordinate becomes a permanent retainer in your service. If it fails, that target will never again be affected, and becomes a rival.
You can try to take over more than 1, with the Cha check penalised by 1 for every 10 subordinates. The total number of retainers is 2HD at 1st level, 5HD at 2nd, 10HD at 3rd, then another 10HD for every level thereafter.
If the targets are already under the control of another chief, penalise your Cha check by a further 1 for every level that chief is higher than you.
If you command a chief, you can indirectly control his retainers.
Other modifiers:
- if the target belongs to another horde, -1
- if the target belongs to another tribe, -1
- if the target's horde/tribe is at war with yours, -1
- if you are a pariah, and trying to control within your own tribe, -2
- there is a race matrix also, for example, and Ogre trying to control an Orc is at -2
- if you are name level or above, +2
